Student Involvement
The mission of the Shields Elementary School Library is to ensure that students can effectively locate, evaluate, and utilize information. By providing flexible, open access to a wide range of resources and reading materials, the library works to evoke a love for reading in all 21st century learners for a lifetime.
Circulation Policies
Students in Kindergarten and first can check out one book.
Students in Second, third, fourth, and fifth grades can check out two books.
Books checked out for research purposes or class projects do not count against the borrowing limit.
Books are checked out for a borrowing period of two weeks.
Books not turned in after two weeks are considered overdue.
No fines are assessed for overdue books.
Fines are assessed for damaged or lost materials (Fines for damaged materials are assessed according to the district)
Lost book fines are assessed according to the purchase price of the material.
Library Collection
The school library supports intellectual freedom and the rights of readers. To learn more about intellectual freedom and the rights of readers, please visit the ALA website.
The library consists of seven sections. Students are allowed to check out books from all sections except the reference section.
