Victoria ISD offers a Dual Language Program for incoming kindergarten students designed to help children develop strong academic skills while becoming proficient in two languages. The programโ€™s goal is to develop studentsโ€™ full academic and linguistic potential by helping them become fully proficient in both English and Spanish.

In a dual language classroom, students learn grade-level academic content while developing literacy and communication skills in both languages. This approach allows students to build language skills naturally while strengthening their understanding of core subjects such as reading, writing, math, science and social studies.

Research shows that students in dual language programs often experience strong academic outcomes while gaining additional benefits such as improved problem-solving skills, greater cognitive flexibility and the ability to communicate across cultures. Over time, students develop bilingualism and biliteracy, skills that can benefit them throughout their academic journey and future careers.

The elementary years are an ideal time for students to begin learning multiple languages. Young children have a natural ability to acquire language, and the dual language model allows them to build both English and Spanish proficiency while continuing to grow academically.

Families with incoming kindergarten students who are interested in the Dual Language Program can apply through the Victoria ISD Application Hub. Applications are open from March 1 through Aug. 31, 2026.

The Application Hub allows families to explore available programs and submit an application for consideration. Parents interested in learning more about the Dual Language Program and other opportunities available to students can visit the Application Hub on the Victoria ISD website.
